Dear Testers,

welcome to our test server for the Summer Update 2025! Among the new quests mentioned in the welcome thread, there is a quest called "Between the Lines" waiting to be discovered. It will take you to a secret place where stories can literally come true.

Have fun discovering this new area where the pen might indeed be mightier than the sword. Ask Phillip in Carlin about the book on his teacher's desk, he will tell you more. After unlocking the access to a world hidden in an old tome, the quest there mainly focuses on reliving a heroic journey to rescue someone dear. This area is targeted at mid-level players, the monsters, the bosses and a small treasure are the main reason to re-visit the dungeons. But there's also new equipment and a beautiful outfit waiting for you as reward.

Please note that in this thread we will discuss only the quest-related questions. For feedback concerning the monsters and bosses, please use the according thread: Between the Lines - Hunting Grounds

Please help us to remove any remaining bugs and give us your feedback concerning the quest.

You can use this thread to inform us about:
  • Quest or map bugs that require a more detailed explanation
  • Issues with quest logic or progress, certain actions that got you stuck
  • Inconsistencies in the quest or map
Please report obvious bugs via the bug report function ingame (press Ctrl+Z):
  • Map bugs can be reported by right-clicking on a map field and selecting the entry "Report Coordinate" from the context menu.
  • Mistakes in NPC chats can be reported by right-clicking on the NPC text in question and selecting the context menu entry "Report Message".

Best regards and have fun testing!

Dear testers,

thank your for testing and for your feedback so far!

Regarding the missing boss tracker entry for Inkwing (and the other Bane Bosses from this quest): this is working as intended, and we currently do not plan to make any changes.

There was the question of how to discover certain passages in the book, e.g. the amazon camp. If you click on the initials at the beginning of the paragraphs, you will learn more about Joran's and Yvette's tale and get some hints for the quest.

I can confirm that three parts of the quest are different for each vocation: the tasks to get into the book, the tasks inside the book and the end part - which I don't want to spoil yet.

Concerning the dip pen, it has no cooldown to use, so I'm not sure what could have caused the problem here.

@Ackyus: It *should* work with tiered items, too. Did you wear the coned hat of enlightenment?

Did someone already manage to get the phoenix feather quill? A small hint: What do you usually use in Tibia for climbing?

Concerning the monk dialogue with Death: Let's say, you will have to ask the right questions, that are in a way related to death / passing.

I'm not sure whether I did correctly understand the issue with Phillip's dialogue. The only restriction to accept the quest is to have a familiar. You should not be able to accept the quest without having one.

Dear testers,

thank you for all your feedback that will certainly help us to enhance the quest's quality.

We fixed the following:

- The graphic bug of the headwalker corpse was fixed.
- The testserver assistant now teaches you the familiar spell once more if you reset the quest.
- We can now confirm that the coned hat of enlightenment indeed just worked with tier 0. It now also works with tier 1.
- fixed several map bugs
- The nibs from which you can pick up the dip pen, are now positioned more central in the tile.

Some further information:

Climbing down to the phoenix fire is only possible with a rope.

The more high level a character is, the higher the chance that the ink trail appears a bit slow, but that's a technical restriction.

You should be able to pick up another dip pen any time as long as you don't have one in your backpack.

Concerning the dialogue with Death: You have to use certain keywords. Think of words related to death and dying, mainly concerning the bereaved.

All parchment floor tiles on which nothing is written yet are writeable.

The quest doors in chapter III can be opened after killing 30 lion hydras.

@Magistyk: You have to use the teleporter to Sir Leonard's boss room. It is in the south-eastern room of the library.

Dear testers,

just a short information: We added a possibility to create a new painted bow inside the Emberwing room. You can now also get a dip pen there. Should be up with the next patch.

More information will follow later.

Dear testers,

thank you for your continued testing and feedback concerning the quest!

Today we made some more fixes:

- We removed one of the quest doors in chapter III (the one that did not lead to the treasure room) and the three quest doors in chapter IV sealing the room with the ink fountain. We realised that they were not really necessary for the quest flow but caused confusion instead.
- You can now use the tools to climb down to the phoenix fire (and up again).
- fixed several map bugs

We are also considering some changes for Sir Leonard's boss fight mechanic and adding some more dialogue to the familiars.

Concerning the different familiar skins: Unfortunately there is no way for the game to recognise which familiar skin a player had selected at the time of the kidnapping. That's why we decided for the base skin.

It also seems that some of you tried to hit the suns rather than the door in Emberwing's room. Could some more of you give me some feedback on whether it would be more intuitive to choose the suns as targets?

concerning the dialogue with Death: Since you have discovered the Keyword "loss" ... What is a key element to overcome loss and sorrow?

@Sayhttam: Have you tried to write something onto the door? And if so, what did you use?

Dear testers,

thank you for your feedback! We will address some of it next week.

As for today, we made the following changes:

- Sir Leonard and his minions got proper barks.
- The ink blob corpses now have the ink blood type.
- Several map bugs were fixed.
- To enter the treasure room you must now have completed the vocation-specific task in the book world instead of killing 30 lion hydras.

Thank your for the feedback concerning the Emberwing familiar room! We will make some adjustments next week.

Best regards and have a nice weekend!

Dear testers,

thank you very much for testing and giving us more feedback over the course of the weekend.

We fixed the following:

- several map bugs
- The familiar now disappears when it is kidnapped and does not reappear.
- You can now fill a vial with ink and put up ink from it with the dip pen.

Concerning King Tibianus, Queen Eloise et al.: The NPCs don't know about the tale, because they did not really partake in the events. It is just a tale written down in a book, which features fictional versions of those NPCs. Joran and Yvette are no real persons, but appear only in the book. But maybe we will add an option to ask said NPCs about the tale, whether they know about it or the like.

It should not be possible to enter the Skullfrost room without the ink-coated sword. Can you confirm, that you entered without it? (Also, the sword is not connected to the player, any ink-coated sword should work.)

concerning new familiar skins: This would unfortunately go beyond the scope of this update. Perhaps we will add them in a future update. But there will be another reward for freeing your familiars which we will implement Wednesday or Thursday, along with an improvement for the mechanic of the Emberwing room.

Dear testers,

thank you very much for testing the "Between the Lines" questline for this year's summer update, for giving feedback and for thus helping us to improve the update's quality!

Today, we made some more changes:

- As additional quest reward, we added figurines for the original familiar skins and the wall painting of Thais which you can see in chapter III.
- For opening Emberwing's cell door you now need three painted arrows which you can also create inside the room.
- Ink splash and vicious ink splash got attack sounds.
- The tail band to exit the bookworld now shows an open door symbol instead of a I.

Please note that bugs concerning the accessibility or exit of the familiar rooms are related to quest reset via the testserver assistant and should not occur live.

All fixes will be up tomorrow. We are also considering to expand the familiar dialogues in the end a bit. At least, as you said, it is as of yet the only occasion on which you can talk to your familiar.

This thread is now closed. I wish you all a wonderful time and hope to see you for the next update.

Best regards
